v0.3.0-beta.1 (UI) Pre-release
released this
2026-10-30 20:35:37 +00:00 | 11 commits to dev since this releaseSlopCut 0.3.0-beta.1: new project list and update flow (UI)
First beta of the UI redesign: a new home screen with project thumbnails, a long-press menu and an
account bar, plus a reworked update flow with a download progress bar, update branches and a dev branch
that delivers every change for testing.Mobile App
Features
- Home screen: projects as a grid of cards showing a blurred frame of the project behind its name and date.
The frame is rendered from the project itself when you leave the editor. - Long press on a project: everything else darkens, the card lifts and a menu opens beside it with More
info, Edit, Rename, Duplicate and Delete. - Account bar at the bottom: tap to expand it into the account panel (server, projects on cloud, switch
account, log out). Accounts arrive with cloud sync; until then it shows sample data and does nothing. - Update button: bright green, only shown when an update exists. Tap downloads it in the background with a
progress bar on the button and a notification (MB done, total, speed); without a connection a message says
so. When the download is verified, "Update app?" asks to install, never while you are editing or exporting;
"Later" asks again at the next app start. - Settings → Updating: choose the branch (stable, beta, or dev = every change, may break), "Check for
updates" now (also with automatic checks off), automatic checks and their interval. - Dev branch: every change pushed for testing now comes as a signed app update for phones on the dev branch.
Fixes
- None.
Known issues
- Projects show a placeholder picture until they are opened and left once.
- The account bar uses sample data; switching, adding accounts and log out do nothing yet.
- The logo is a placeholder (app icon and name).
- Other screens (editor, settings layout) are not redesigned yet.
- 0.2.0 only looks for stable updates: install this beta manually once; later betas and dev builds then
arrive in the app.

v0.1.0-beta.4 Pre-release
released this
2026-10-26 22:17:03 +00:00 | 25 commits to dev since this releaseSlopCut 0.1.0-beta.4: in-app updates, automatic server certificates, Pelican egg
The app can now update itself. The server gets its own Let's Encrypt certificate and can be hosted with a
Pelican egg. This release also fixes server self-update, which never worked before.Mobile App
Features
- Opt-in update check. On first launch the app asks once whether it may check for updates; Settings has
a switch to change the answer. When on, the app asks git.slopmc.net for new releases at most once a
day. The request carries no identifiers. While off or offline, the app makes no request. - When a newer release exists for your channel, an "Update" button appears in the top bar. A beta build
is offered betas and stable releases; a stable build only stable releases. Tapping it downloads the
APK, checks its SHA-256 against the release'sSHA256SUMSand hands it to Android's installer.
Android asks you to confirm and installs only an APK signed with the same key. The downloaded file is
deleted afterwards. - New Settings screen (gear icon in the project list): update check switch and app version.
- This is the app's first network access: it now holds the INTERNET permission. The only connection
is HTTPS to git.slopmc.net, verified with the system's certificate authorities.
Fixes
- None.
Known issues
- On the first update, Android asks you to allow "install unknown apps" for SlopCut.
- Debug builds do not update themselves (separate package and signing key).
- No accounts or cloud saves yet.
Server
Features
- Automatic certificates. Set
SLOPCUT_TLS_DOMAIN=cut.example.cominstead of cert/key files, and the
server gets and renews a Let's Encrypt certificate by itself (ACME TLS-ALPN-01). It needs no secret or
upload, and it swaps a renewed certificate in without a restart. Port 443 of the domain must reach the
server: with Docker, map"443:8443"; if 443 is already in use, add a TLS passthrough (SNI) rule.
SLOPCUT_TLS_ACME_DIRECTORYswitches to Let's Encrypt staging for a first try. - Pelican egg
egg-slopcut-server.yaml, attached to this release. The installer checks the binary
againstSHA256SUMS, and every setting is a validated panel variable. A guide covers DNS and SNI
passthrough when the node already uses 443:server/deploy/pelican/README.md.
Fixes
- Self-update could never stage an update. Every download of the 64-byte update signature failed with
"the response body is larger than request limit: 64". On thedevbranch this also logged a warning
at every check.
Known issues
- Servers on 0.1.0-beta.3 or older cannot update themselves to this version, because the bug above is in
the old binary. Update once by hand: with Docker, download this release'sdocker-compose.ymland run
docker compose pull && docker compose up -d. After that, self-update works. - Switching an existing install to
SLOPCUT_TLS_DOMAINneeds this version as the image or installed
binary, not only as a self-update. - The Pelican egg is not yet confirmed on a real Wings node.
- Behind a passthrough proxy the server sees the proxy's IP address. This has no effect until accounts
exist. - No accounts or cloud saves yet; the server serves
/v1/healthand updates itself.

released this
2026-10-26 20:40:55 +00:00 | 30 commits to dev since this releaseSlopCut 0.1.0-beta.3: self-updating beta and dev servers
The app is unchanged since 0.1.0-beta.2. This beta is about the self-hosted server.
Mobile App
Fixes
- None.
Known issues
- No in-app update check yet (planned next).
Server
Features
- Self-update now works on every branch:
SLOPCUT_AUTO_UPDATE_BRANCHpicksstable,betaordev.
The default isstable; the shippedserver.env.examplesetsbeta. Beta releases now include
signed update binaries. devfollows a rolling build of thedevbranch, for test servers only. It is published to the
forge's package registry, not as a release.SLOPCUT_AUTO_UPDATE_PING_INTERVALaccepts any whole number of seconds from 1. A failed download
is retried after 15 minutes at the earliest.- The compose file is now named
docker-compose.yml(wascompose.yaml).
Fixes
- None.
Known issues
- Servers on 0.1.0-beta.1 or beta.2 cannot update themselves to this version. Delete the old
compose.yaml(Compose prefers it over the new file), download this release'sdocker-compose.yml, addSLOPCUT_AUTO_UPDATE_BRANCHto.env,
then rundocker compose up -d. Updates after that are automatic onceSLOPCUT_AUTO_UPDATE=1. - No accounts or cloud saves yet; the server serves
/v1/healthand updates itself.

v0.1.0-beta.2 Pre-release
released this
2026-10-26 19:44:10 +00:00 | 33 commits to dev since this releaseSlopCut 0.1.0-beta.2: verified on the reference device
All MVP features up to M6 now pass their acceptance checks on the reference
device (Nothing Phone (3a) Pro).Fixes
- Small videos (e.g. 128 x 64) no longer vanish from preview and export when
the hardware decoder refuses them: Android's software decoder takes over. - Preview audio and video are in sync: frames are drawn for the moment they
reach the screen (about 40 ms later on the reference device), not when the
audio clock is read. - Export is faster: audio is decoded and mixed on its own thread
(1080p30 with 3 video + 3 audio layers: 1.17x real time, was 0.91-1.04x).
Measured on the reference device
- Preview of 3 x 1080p layers: 116-119 fps median on a 120 Hz display.
- Timeline scroll with 21 tracks: never below 60 fps.
- H.264, HEVC and AV1 export within 10 % of the target bitrate; every canvas
preset exports at its planned size; exports continue in the background and
a cancelled export leaves no file in the gallery.
Known issues
- No in-app update check yet (planned next).
- Server self-update ships with stable releases only; update a beta server
withdocker compose pull.

- Look: keyframable color adjustments, ~30 bundled filters with strength, ~15 transitions, animated
image/GIF/APNG/WebP stickers. - Export: MP4 720p-2160p at 24-60 fps, save to gallery and share sheet, no watermark or end card.
- Server: multi-arch Docker image with compose.yaml pinned by digest; opt-in signed self-update.
Known issues
- Not yet verified on a reference device: canvas aspect presets (A3), multi-track timeline gestures (B1),
transform/crop (B8), picture-in-picture (B13), audio waveforms (D1), codec/bitrate choice (H2),
export speed targets (H3). - Server self-update is not usable yet: the update signing key is not set up, so SLOPCUT_AUTO_UPDATE=1
refuses to start. Update the server withdocker compose pull.
